Frequently Asked Questions

What are my insurance benefits?

Each insurance policy is based on benefits decided upon by each individual, employer and carrier. Most policies have a calendar year deductible and maximum which normally runs from January 1st through December 31st. The deductible normally does not apply to preventive treatment and the plan maximum applies to all treatment. Dental insurance coverage is usually divided into three categories: I) Preventive, II) General dental treatment, and III) Major treatment. As a common example many plans cover I at 100%, II at 80% and III at 50%. Our knowledgeable staff will discuss dental services in each category. We ask that you report to us any changes in your insurance policy.

Do you offer nitrous oxide?

Yes, we do. Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is an analgesic (relaxing) gas administered with oxygen through an apparatus that fits over the nose. It is safe, calming and works very well in conjunction with local anesthetics.

What happens if I feel discomfort during treatment?

We request that you get our attention if you are feeling uncomfortable during any dental procedure. We have the knowledge and expertise to make all your visits to us as comfortable and painless as possible. There is no rush. We will always take the time to make each appointment a pleasant experience.

What if I have an emergency?

If you have a dental emergency, we will schedule you that day for an appointment even if you are not an existing patient in our practice. After regular office hours, emergencies are handled by Dr. Wade or our covering dentist.

What should I expect during my appointments?

You will always be greeted cordially and with respect, often being referred to by your first name. We pride ourselves in performance, which means we run on time. You won’t have to wait to be seen. Dr. Wade or your hygienist will review any health changes and explain your treatment. If you need a break for any reason let us know. Dr. Wade is gentle and compassionate and will make sure you are okay throughout the procedure. You will leave on time as well and receive a personal call from the doctor after more extensive surgical procedures.

What is a full service office?

For us it means catering to our patients in every way we can. Dr. Wade is a general dentist who enjoys all disciplines of dentistry and provides a wide array of services. Our office requests you ask any question you have and comment on any experience you have witnessed.

How often should I see a dentist?

The minimum is twice a year. In cases where gum disease and tooth decay risks are high it is common to visit a dentist more frequently. Early detection of problems and less invasive treatment along with reviewing preventive measures and home care programs are significant benefits from consistent, professional scrutiny.

How long do I have to wait for an appointment?

Our focus is on you and your schedule. You will be asked what day and time fits best for an appointment. We will make every effort to accommodate your need.

When my children have appointments can I stay in the room with them?

Yes. Absolutely. We encourage it, especially for very young children. Parents often lend an air of familiarity to an otherwise unknown procedure.

Why do I have to take my child to the dentist when their baby teeth are “just going to fall out anyway?”

Primary or baby teeth are important to hold the space for the permanent teeth that will replace them. Children can get toothaches and infections from advanced decay. If lost prematurely, primary teeth can cause space problems and crowded, overlapping or rotated permanent teeth requiring orthodontics (braces) to correct. It is prudent to visit the dentist by your child’s first birthday for what can be considered a “well-baby check-up.”

How does your office handle infection control?

In our office infection control procedures and universal precautions protect everyone; our patients, Dr. Wade and entire dental team. We follow recommended procedures by the governing federal and professional agencies. We use… disposable materials where possible, disinfectant (antibacterial) hand soap, gloves and masks, chemical disinfectant on all countertops and surfaces, sterilize all equipment before every use. We sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental hand pieces. We use an autoclave that kills bacteria by steam, heat and pressure. The best defense against disease is a consistently implemented infection control program that never deviates from the effective system. Please feel free to discuss this topic with us.
